I understand the urge to throw it back in some of these media members faces. I’ve been known to lay into certain members of the MSSM myself. But to be honest, this series illustrates exactly why predictions are stupid.
I’ll bet you’d be hard-pressed amongst even those who picked the Stars in this series to say they weren’t surprised by several developments in this series. Particularly, the blue line play of Fistric, Grossman, and Niskanen.
And if I wasn’t picking with my heart in this one, I probably would have gone with the Ducks in 6 using their playoff experience as a primary reason why.
I’m an expert! I picked the Ducks! Heh. (Seriously, though — the Stars were swooning! They were like the Devils, but WORSE! How were we supposed to see this coming? :P)

The MSM usually only has a very superficial understanding of a given team. The only team it really benefits is the Rangers. :P

Yeah, seriously…no one saw this coming. I’d say 6 “experts” out of 44 sounds fitting considering where the teams were sitting, going into the series. But, everybody was hellbent on focusing on Dallas’ losing streak that finished out the year. No one brought up the fact that they pretty much dominated the Ducks for the duration of the regular season.
Of course, that being said, I picked the Stars to win. Y’know, no big deal.
Woo Hoo! Go Patty! Enjoy it!…’Cause if the Sharks win tonight, we shall be mortal enemies once again! (for at least one playoff round)

I was pretty distraught about most of March, too, but I never liked the angle that the Ducks won the last 2 (or however many), so they had figured us out. Hey, the Kings and the Coyotes beat us during that stretch, too. It wasn’t that hard.
Andrew’s Stars Page reports that Zubie skated in practice and that Tip says he’s “day to day” and should play sometime in the next round. Bouch, unfortunately, isn’t skating yet, but great news about Zubie!

Exactly why I picked the Stars to win. I didn’t think the Ducks had enough scoring depth and I figured Dallas was going to through everything they had at the Ducks to not exit in the first round again. Of course, I did have a reader comment on my prediction by saying “Interesting.. the people that KNOW say the Ducks will win over the Stars and then we have a journalist such as yourself calling it the other way. I guess we’ll have to wait and see after the series ends who will be the survivor” to which I can now gloat and say, “I guess people who KNOW didn’t really KNOW since if they had KNOWN, then they would have picked the Stars to win”
Good luck to the Stars in the 2nd round…I think they can overtake the Sharks.
People really believed the Stars had nothing, didn’t they, kms2? I’m glad you’re picking them over the Sharks. I’m anxious to find out what the people who KNOW will say about the next round.
