More from the experts.
May 5, 2008 by Patty (in Dallas)
It seems only a few writers from the first list were swayed by how handily the Dallas Stars eliminated the defending Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks. We picked up 8 more on our side.
(The Sports Illustrated guys picked all four rounds at once. And they all picked the Ducks in the first round, so they’re off the list. For some of them, I just couldn’t find their picks for this round. I added a guy from Inside Hockey and Darren Pang with Fox Sports.)
So for Round 2, out of 37 “experts”, 22 picked the Sharks and 14 picked the Stars.
My bet is that it gets out of whack again when the next series starts.

I really like how you do this Patty. It’s nice to see who picked the Stars to win once the series over.
I hear your man has been skating the past few days and made the trip to Detroit. Even if he doesn’t play in Game 1, it’s still progress!

Thanks, Amy! I think it’s kinda fun. Every year I wish I had written them all down to compare, but I never do. This time I had an excuse. :D
I’m thrilled to hear he’s skating again!
I don’t ever care what people predict when the series starts, but I like to see the predictions at the end. If I remember correctly, Tim Cowlishaw was the only person who picked the Stars to win the Cup at the beginning of the 1998-99 season. They made a big deal about it after they won the Cup and had a huge list (similar to yours) of all the predictions made in October.
I hope he comes back soon. I know this year must have been terrible for him with all the injuries. I kind of hope they go back to 7 defensemen once he returns. I like the idea of Mo or Richards centering the 4th line. We know Richards can handle the minutes, and I just think it makes the team stronger.
