I’m discovering that I don’t look forward to re-capping games we lose. This one was not too good. Just a couple of random, disjointed thoughts:
First of all, every single hockey game should be in HD. I especially love it when it’s the Stars’ own broadcast, since we get lots of closeups of the Stars players. I don’t like to perpetuate stereotypes, but Scandinavian people often have very nice skin. Nik Hagman and Jussi Jokinen certainly do.
Have I mentioned that I love that Nik Hagman? Because I do. He got the first goal. He also got a game misconduct for boarding, although it didn’t seem to be the kind of vicious hit that usually ends with a game misconduct. Does that make me a homer? It seemed to me that the Ottawa player bent over a fraction of a second before Hagman hit him. It was from the side, technically, too. And Hagman is not the kind of guy that hits from behind. I’m sure if we were on the other side, we’d have been upset, but I like to think I wouldn’t think it was a dirty play. Hopefully he won’t be suspended.
The real issue with the refs was the non-call on the high-stick to Jussi at the end of the game. Earlier, a high-stick on an Ottawa player was called by the linesman when the two referees missed it. I guess all four of them missed the high stick on Jussi at center ice, that everybody else saw.
Other than that, nothing really stood out. I’m ready for them start on another winning streak. Maybe against Edmonton on Monday.
