This I-love-hockey I-hate-hockey I-love-hockey I-hate-hockey roller coaster is starting to wear on me.
The Stars have won one game in March. Out of six! They lost 2 games in all of February! Out of 14!
I’m sorry about all the exclamation points, but I’m just so beside myself with panic. And yes, a little bit of rage. (Can you have a little bit of rage?)
This is exactly what I feared when the trade deadline was looming. We have won two games since then and I’m just about ready to stop counting the first one, because it was obviously a fluke!
I’m not going to claim that I knew putting Holmqvist in net was a bad idea. He’s got to try it sometime, since he’s our backup goalie now. Now that Smitty has been traded. Because it’s against some rule that you can’t have two really good goalies at one time. I guess by the time the summer came around, Tampa Bay wouldn’t be needing a goalie any more. Is that why we couldn’t use what was working for just a couple of more months? Because Smitty wouldn’t be tradeable after that?
Poor Holmqvist was left out there by himself (mostly, I guess), because the rest of the team was turning over the puck all day and generally being out of position. I guess none of that can be attributed to the scrambling they’re doing with the lines, because after five months of work to decide who plays best with whom and to get everybody used to their linemates, taking two of them out and adding one stranger is such a minor thing. That can’t be it at all.
He had to be nervous, too, not having played in so long, and being a total stranger. I feel for him. There’s really no way he can be worked in and ramped up in such a short time. I already knew that. Plus, they were losing fine before he started, too. Don’t forget that.
After they were down 3-0, then climbed back to tie it in the second period, my hopes soared. Only to be dashed again by a fluky, ugly goal that they just couldn’t get back. It made me mad that they tied it. I’d almost rather they just lose, than to tease me like that.
Normally, this kind of game wouldn’t bother me so much, but we only have 8 games left, now. And the Sharks are pulling ahead and the Ducks are a point ahead, too. And we don’t play another game until Wednesday. And the playoffs ARE ABOUT TO START!
It’s torture. Full-on torture.
