There was a time, not too long ago, when we were at the bottom of both these lists.
We have a long way to go, but at least we’re working in the right direction. I’m much more optimistic than I was in the first two months. I’m not predicting anything, though, and things could still turn bad again, but I’m going to enjoy it while I can.
Brad Richards is suddenly on fire. He has 13 points in the last 7 games! I have no problem at all if he does nothing but rack up assists. But he’s also scoring a few goals in there, too. He and Loui Eriksson need to never be separated.
Mike Ribeiro has 10 points in those same 7 games. He’s finally coming out of his doldrums over Brenden Morrow being gone. Having Steve Ott on his line helps, and Brunnstrom was really picking up the scoring before he was injured.
And, of course, Mike Modano and James Neal have been putting up the points, too.
Tippett has given each center a kid to play with. And it’s working.
We can’t ignore the defense, though. Little Matt Niskanen is finally coming back around. He’s had several good games in a row and has mixed in some scoring, too. He has 2 goals and 6 points in the last 8 games and has been even or a plus in all of those games.
Nik Grossman and Stéphane Robidas have been their usual steady selves. And pretty much everybody else has been doing just what they’re asked to do.
It’s good that we’re only 2 points out of the playoff picture, but it’s still tough because several other teams are in the same boat. They have to lose in addition to our wins.
I think we can do it.
