I haven’t been writing much lately, have I?
The playoffs are leaving a lot to be desired, let me tell you. I’ve been forced to choose between evils, root for teams that can’t possibly win, and root for teams that can’t possibly lose, but are.
The first round coughed up the Ducks and the Wings and now they’re playing each other. I really wanted the Sharks to knock out the Ducks and get embarrassed later, but they were in a hurry and let the Ducks advance. I’m never going to forgive them for that.
Because now, in the second round, I have to pick somebody to root for. Or at least root against more, which is basically the same thing! In Game 1 of that series, I whined about having to cheer for the Red Wings to win, because it goes against every fiber of my being, but (I thought), at least it’s better than seeing the Ducks win.
Uhhhh… not so fast. By the time Game 2 came around, I was wavering. And after watching the first period I finally had to admit that, as reprehensible as the Ducks are, the Wings are worse. So don’t tell anybody, but I’m hoping the Ducks eliminate the Wings.
The other series in the Western Conference, the Vancouver Canucks vs. the Chicago Blackhawks, was a little easier to pick a side. I love alix and The Humming Giraffe (although she’s moving), but I have to go with the Blackhawks.
They’re all spunky and cute. Just a bunch of kids that don’t know any better. At least based on what little I know about them. That team has a few highly good-looking dudes, I’m not gonna lie. Patrick Sharp is my new buddy. And I really wish Duncan Keith were about to become a free agent and Dallas had some kind of inside track on him.
But if the Canucks win, I can live with it.
The Eastern Conference used to be my retreat. A place to go when I hate all the teams in the West and need a good series that I can be happy with if they’re just good, hard-fought games. But no. I’ve been hanging around IPB too long now, and I’ve been highly influenced by all those Eastern Conference fans.
The Carolina Hurricanes vs. the Boston Bruins is a series that I can kind of relax with. I have picked Carolina for some unknown reason, but I can still enjoy it even if the Bruins win. Carolina has Eric Staal and Chad LaRose (whom I barely even heard of, but was charmed by his “Day in the Life” episode) and Cam Ward. Boston has Marc Savard. He’s highly underrated, even by me. I remember him fondly from back when he was with the Atlanta Thrashers, playing with Dany Heatley and Ilya Kovalchuk. He has really blossomed in Boston — 25 goals, 63 assists (!), for 88 points, and a plus-25 this year — but we hardly hear about him, it seems.
The absolute bane of my existence is this stupid Penguins vs. Capitals series. I am not a fan of the Caps, I’ll just say that right up front. Extremely not a fan. I was really mad at the Pens for the way they’ve treated Bouche, but the fact that I’m a big fan of Sidney Crosby’s has softened me on them a little bit. I lowered myself to root for the Caps to eliminate the Rangers, but that was with the assurance that the Pens could crush them. Well, they’re not crushing them yet. It’s very distressing.
It’s early, sure, but it’s not looking too good for the Pens. The ‘Canes tied their series, and the ‘Hawks are looking good, though. And even though the Ducks tied their series, at least it means the Wings lost one.
It’s all such torture! Why do I put myself through it?

Hey now, who was assuring you that it was okay to cheer for the Caps because they were going to be crushed by the Pens? I TOLD YOU NOT TO CHEER FOR THE CAPS! But would you listen? No! You just had to go and cheer against the Rangers, greater good be damned. Are you happy now? ARE YOU???
Heh.
Well, later, when you were having to accept the fact that the Rangers choked up a 3-1 lead, you assured me the Pens could crush the Caps. :P
But you’re SO right, Schnookie! I screwed up! It’s all my fault! Ovie could be on the golf course now if it weren’t for me!

Um, because you’re a hockey fan. :)
Um, because you’re a hockey fan. :)
Heh. That’s basically it, isn’t it?
