Archive for the ‘Sidney Crosby’ Category

Brad

I guess it’s time to update my category list and move a bunch of players around. And coaches, too! Don’t forget coaches.

First of all, I’d like to say that I was shocked and saddened by the news of the plane crash carrying the KHL team Lokomotiv. I was already going to miss Karlis Skrastins and now I get all teary whenever he’s mentioned. It’s very sad. I really liked him while he was playing with the Stars. He was underappreciated, I thought. I’m a big fan of responsible, dedicated, unsung but important defensemen. They’re getting fewer and fewer these days. The defensemen that really should be forwards get all the press these days, but those like Skrastins are the ones that get the job done. From all accounts he was the nicest guy in the world and we’re going to miss him. We were going to miss him anyway.

On to less serious topics.

Boy, that was an exciting Olympics gold medal game, wasn’t it? Congratulations to Brenden Morrow for what must have been the dream of a lifetime. I’m sure he won’t be lording it over his teammates when he gets back to town. Even so, Mike Modano should be ready to smack him if need be.

And congratulations to Team USA for a thrilling run through the tournament, all the way to the marquee game on Sunday afternoon. I think I almost broke my voice screaming when Zach Parise tied up the game with 24 seconds left. I wasn’t so happy about Sidney Crosby scoring in OT to win the game, but if it had to be some Canadian, I’m happy it was Sid. He looked pretty happy about the whole thing while they waited for the medals to be awarded.

There’s a new! Uh-huh! Hockey sensation, Uh-huh!

This summer is INTERMINABLE!

If it weren’t for this episode of The Penguins of Madagascar, I’d have gone completely insane.

See, it’s a retelling of the story of the last two Stanley Cup Finals between the adorable Penguins and the sewer-rat Red Wings.

Seriously. I’m not convinced the new hockey season will ever start.

Stanley Cup 2009

The Stanley Cup is probably the most revered trophy in sports. It’s the most difficult to win, and it’s the ultimate dream of every kid that ever played hockey in his driveway. And every kid that ever played hockey in his driveway was playing in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

That’s what we have tonight. It’s the pinnacle of the entire hockey season. The Stanley Cup is the reason the National Hockey League even exists and it will be awarded tonight. There’s no tomorrow.

Go Pens!

Here’s a great montage from the Game 6 pregame show on CBC. The Canadians have a long history with hockey, so their highlight reels are really good. The first 2:30 is the good part.

And here’s something that fascinates me no end. The taping of the stick. And it’s Sidney Crosby doing it. Looks like he’s done it a few times in his life. Skip to the 3:25 mark.

(Thanks to Empty Netters for the finds.)

I’m kind of on a YouTube kick these days, aren’t I? I’m also on a big Sidney Crosby kick. I was on the Reebok site, actually looking for shoes, and I was reminded of their hockey section.

So I wandered over there and found this video. There is a contest going on for the best move and there are some fun videos. Sid’s move is very subtle. It took the slo-mo of it for me to see exactly what he did.

I hate to see Red Wings do anything, of course, but I have to admit Pavel Datsyuk has some nice stick-handling moves.

The off-season is stretching out ahead of me, so I’m going to need fun stuff like this to get me through it.
